Fraudulent Cashier's Checks

When you receive a cashier's check, use the following guidelines to protect yourself.

  • Be wary of accepting a cashier's check from someone you don't know.
  • If you are asked to accept a cashier's check from someone you don't know, contact the institution that issued the check to validate the check number, amount and particularly the payee.
  • When depositing a cashier's check, understand that even though Dollar Bank provides you with access to the money, you're responsible for the funds in the event that the check is returned invalid.
  • Be suspicious of and avoid situations where someone pays more than the purchase price of an item and requests that you return the extra money.
